Architectural Digest - Industry Kitchen Opens Under Manhattans FDR Drive

For a new restaurant tucked under Manhattan’s FDR Drive, just below South Street Seaport on the East River, Wid Chapman Architects conceived a sleek space to complement the contemporary building designed by SHoP Architects. To balance the hard edges, the firm filled the room with warm woods, pairing floorboards from old trucks with blackened steel for the tables and sheathing the ceiling in reclaimed-oak planks. Custom-made pendant lights inspired by industrial gears hang overhead. In addition to a separate bar area, there is a dining counter where guests can watch chef Marco Arnold’s pizzas and other dishes—such as roasted chicken over lemon—being cooked in the two wood-burning ovens. And on nice days patrons can take advantage of the outdoor seating, which offers prime views of the East River and Brooklyn beyond.
